Shadows (Matristic)

Matristic unfolds as a vivid journey between visibility and suggestion. Inspired by Plato's allegory of the cave, these towering acrylic canvases portray figures that appear as silhouettes, presences, and echoes of form. They hover in a threshold space, between what is seen and what is sensed. Their contours are softened, stretched, or dissolved, as if remembered rather than observed.

The series traces the moment where perception becomes creation. Light does not simply reveal these bodies; it completes them. Color surges and fades across their surfaces, creating a rhythmic field of movement that hints at collective memory, ritual, and ancestral gathering. These forms speak of origin and becoming. They suggest identities not yet fixed, still forming in the luminous womb of the imagination.

The term Matristic merges matrix and artistic: the matrix as source, womb, ground of being. In this space, the works evoke a pre-verbal realm where shapes rise like shadows discovering themselves, learning to step into reality. They are visions just before awakening. The viewer is invited into this threshold, to witness perception shaping the world, and the world shaping perception.

Conceptual Connection: Shadows (Matristic) directly engages with Plato's allegory of the cave, finding its philosophical foundation in the Cave concept from "To Be Born." While the Cave represents the metaphysical space of transformation, Shadows (Matristic) explores the visual and perceptual dimensions of this same philosophical inquiry—how we perceive reality, how light and darkness shape our understanding, and how we emerge from illusion into awareness.
